Tour the hospital

Did you know the building where we work is 100 years old? The legend says it was built, by hand, by a one-armed man. Some older staff claimed to have met the one-armed man, although he has since passed.

Located directly off Sooke road, we are blessed by parking in front of the clinic. We extended the front in 2019 and now have full access via ramp!

Reception

Our bright reception area faces the harbour. Here, you will be greeted by front desk staff and checked in. New clients will be asked to fill in a bit of paperwork, while established clients know to weigh their dogs (and provide a cookie as reward!). Before long, you will be taken into the examination room.

Examination rooms

Our large examination rooms have everything we need; sink, cytology stains, clippers, table, cat weigh scale, otoscope, cleaners, ear flushes, treats, toys... the list goes on. The large size allows us to accommodate everyone from the tiny kittens to the huge malamutes. Don't like smooth floors? Just ask and we will put down a mat or carpet!
As of January 2016, we now have two large examination rooms, and can now provide appointments both morning and afternoon six days a week.

Radiology (aka X-ray)

In Radiology we have our very own X-ray machine, the same kind that is used in human medicine. In the corner, you will see the CR developer, which develops the films into a digital image to show on the screen. These digital images are then attached to your pet's medical file and a copy can be burned onto a CD or DVD if you would like to take them home.

Surgery

Our surgical suite can accommodate any size of dog or cat, and has handled everything from a 300g guinea pig to a 75kg (165lbs!) Newfoundland dog. We use the safest drugs we have access to, many of which are the same ones used by human anesthetists. Animals under anesthesia are monitored with a variety of instruments including ECG, capnograph, blood pressure monitors and other, so that any changes can be quickly detected and adjusted for.

Treatment area

Also known as 'The Back', the Treatment area is a versatile area used to prepare animals for surgery, collect samples (like blood work), hospitalize sick animals, provide intravenous fluids, trim nails and a variety of other work.

The Legacy Garden

These old ponds had been filled in, but the fresh flowers under the apple trees still create a serene hideaway where you and your pet can relax. On sunny days, we may be caught outside at the picnic table over lunch.
