My pet is booked for surgery. What do I need to know?

back to Pet info page
Please ensure your pet (unless very young, a rabbit, or you have been advised differently) has not been fed since 8pm the night before the surgery. Access to water is fine (and encouraged to ensure hydration).  On the day of surgery, bring your pet to the clinic at your admission time, but please allow dogs to urinate beforehand (unless you have been advised differently or know we are wishing to collect a urine sample). We will require a phone number where you can be reached during the day. We may call with questions if something comes up, or to discuss findings if additional work is recommended.

Unless it has already been done, we will discuss pre-operative blood work with you at the time of admission. This page at veterinary partner.com has great information about what the blood work tells us and why we recommend it for every patient.

Expect to pick up your pet between 3 and 4 pm, with routine surgeries usually picked up around 3,  and dentistry cases are usually picked up closer to 4pm. At pick up, a staff member will go over all the information you need for caring for your pet over the next few weeks. If you wish to know more, check out this page at veterinary partner.com about post-operative care, although please be aware that individual care varies based on the procedure. Payment is due at time of pick up.
