Finances are tight. What options do I have?

                                                           back to Pet info page
Everyone needs a little help sometimes.
We do our best to accommodate people's needs and offer a spectrum of care to provide options for every budget.  Read on to learn more about financial help available.

1. Pet Insurance
  • How it works:
    • Clients purchase policies from private insurers, with monthly payments made in advance of illnesses/treatments.
    • Will not cover pre-existing conditions and might have per condition or per year maximums.
    • Best to sign up when young and healthy to avoid exemptions.
    • Covers a portion of eligible medical expenses (accidents, illness, wellness).
    • The client pays the clinic, then gets reimbursed by their insurance provider OR (for Trupanion) we offer direct pay where the insurance provider pays their portion directly so the client is only responsible for the difference
  • Common providers: Trupanion, Pets+Us, Petsecure (also available through various groups like Costco, banks etc)

2. Third-Party Financing
a. CareCredit
  • Healthcare credit card for pet expenses.
  • Offers interest-free or low-interest payment plans if paid within a set time frame.
  • Instant credit decisions, easy application process.
b. MORE TO COME
  • Short-term payment plans (no credit card required).
  • Flexible repayment terms; soft credit checks.
  • No deferred interest or hidden fees.

3. Charitable or Hardship Assistance
  • Below is a list of charities that work with Sooke Veterinary Hospital routinely.
  • Charities are run by volunteers and they are often limited by the funds available. Please be patient when it takes them a day or two to answer.
  • It is unlikely any one charity will  pay full bills; that is the responsibility of the owner. However, many of the below charities will contribute a portion of the fees to help alleviate some of the burden. Others focus on providing for spays and neuters and can be contacted to cover some of the cost.
  • How it works:
    • Once they have authorized financial aid, the charity will contact us with the amounts to be applied to the account (can be done in advance of the appointment).
  • Please consider donating when you are able to help fund these caring groups. They have saved many lives with their work.

EXAMPLE CHARITIES
